So I'm in Alaska... I still can't really believe it! I guess it's not quite what I imagined at first (all snow, moose everywhere, polar bears, crazy huge glaciers, and igloos), but I already knew that would happen. Did anyone ever see that old live action Disney movie, Alaska? That's more what I imagined when I pictured Alaska, but it is the summer after all, and most of the snow is already melted. And I'm living in the city, so modern conveniences and streets with buildings do exist.

There are some cool things here though! Like just today, I ate two live Alaskan Oysters. It was all slippery and weird and tasted like the ocean, though I did put lemon and cocktail sauce with it. It actually wasn't so bad. Weird, but not bad. I'm still not sure I believe that they were alive, though... they weren't moving or anything. Can oysters move when disconnected from their shells? They were hard to open.

I've also seen some nice scenery, and the daylight hours are ridiculously long. The sun goes down at like ten o'clock at night and comes up around four thirty or five. That's cool. And there are a lot of different types of people up here. And for the most part, I haven't gone venturing outside of the city yet. What I plan to do by the time I leave here at the end of the summer is at least hike Flattop and see a glacier. And a moose. I have yet to spot a moose. Too bad they come out mostly in the winter time, though the family I'm staying with assures me I'll definitely see one by the end of the summer.
